We have been to Manchester Pride every year for the last 8 years – however, Manchester Pride 2019 is taking on a big change! So far, we have considered Manchester pride to be one of the best the UK has to offer and we hope this remains the same for 2019!
However, this year we are missing Manchester Pride because we have moved to live in Madrid! We wanted to take the time to reflect on all the times we have been, and write up a short guide to everything you need to know for Manchester Pride 2019. If you are going this year, have a drink for us!
Manchester Pride 2019 – when and where is it?
As we write this, lots of new information is being released because Manchester Pride for 2019 is changing. For years it has been held in the gay village, but this can no longer continue as Pride has outgrown this area with new property developments reducing the space available. One of the organisers also explained that new terms and conditions for the spaces used for the main stage mean nothing could be confirmed until 3 months before the event – this being a huge risk has meant that to avoid disappointment, Manchester Pride 2019 will take on a new form!
The main stage this year will be held in Mayfield, a short walk from the gay village. This venue has been used in the past for the Warehouse Project and Manchester International Festival so you expect good things! This will over over 30 performances over the weekend and house more people than ever before – up to 12,ooo vs 5,000 as previous main stage events! Hopefully bigger numbers mean bigger acts.
Previously called the Big Weekend, the main stage part of Manchester Pride 2019 will now be called Manchester Pride Live, which will take place on Saturday August 24 and Sunday August 25.
There will still be focus around the Gay Village, namely Canal Street and the surrounding streets, where you will find all the bars, clubs and parks to enjoy.
