Gay Bars in Venice, Italy (2020)

When we first visited in 2019, we were very excited to find a gay bar in Venice and spent a lot of time researching and googling ‘gay bars Venice, Italy’.

For such a popular and trendy destination, we were surprised to find a serious lack of gay bars or gay clubs in Venice at all.

In fact, we found that the nightlife scene here is very relaxed, easy going and involves having many Aperols (which we love). With that in mind, it’s not so surprising that there isn’t really any gay nightlife in Venice…..or is there..

So where is the nearest gay club or gay bar in Venice?

Venice is an incredible destination and it felt very gay friendly. That might be one of the reasons for there being no gay bars – everyone is welcome everywhere.

This was definitely the case for us and we felt very much at ease to have a romantic weekend exploring Venice hand in hand.

However, if you are still looking for a gay bar or gay club in Venice, the nearest options can be found on the mainland.

Trash and Chic, Venice

This is not a gay bar per se, but an LGBT night called Trash and Chic which started in 2006 and became the gay place in Venice to party.

It is held at a few different venues including places around Mestre (nearest mainland to the historic town) and sometimes the surrounding cities including Padua.

We suggest checking their Facebook page for the location of their next party.

They have themed evenings with a lot of animation on stage, drag queens, professional dancers and music from pop to reggaeton and house.

Trash and Chic is on 2 or 3 times per month. Check their Facebook page for upcoming events.

Juice Berry, (Gay Cruising Club)

If you want to check out this gay cruising club in Venice make sure you have some ID.

All cruising clubs in Venice require an ARCO card which you can usually buy at the entrance for as little as €5 but you need photo ID to do so.

They have various themed nights here with entrance fees from €10. Some nights even include a buffet and a show.

You can take a look at what is coming up here.

When it comes to gay bars in Venice, there is clearly not much on offer. However, in our opinion, this is not a destination to come and party, it’s a destination for romance and to get lost in the maze of streets and bridges in the historic town.

If you are just looking for a casual drink in a gay friendly environment, just pick any bar and enjoy watching the world go by.
