Travelling – Lets get started!

It’s almost time for our biggest travelling adventure to date!

Before we set off, we wanted to share a bit about our background, what we are aiming to do and how we plan to do it!

Our background

We have been together for just over 9 years and recently got married. Throughout those 9 years we have shared a strong passion for travel and always saved as much as we could to fund our travel addiction

As of 2017, we have visited over 25 countries and have a long list of new countries we plan to visit over the next couple of years.

Relaxing in Koh Tao, Thailand.

Our most significant traveling adventure, where we gained the so called ‘traveling bug’, was back in 2011 where we went away for 9 months. This is how it came about…..

Our first long term travel – 2011-2012

We were both working in Manchester in 2011, with graduate jobs lined up starting in August 2012.

We knew we wanted to travel before starting our careers and knew we needed money. While saving hard and living in a tiny studio apartment I suggested to Ben, ”why don’t we just go to Australia and earn our money there instead?” I figured the wages were better so we would be able to save more.

The next day we went to STA Travel, booked flights, applied for our visas and that was that. We had our first adventure booked which you can read about here!

We worked for three months in Australia, before travelling down the east coast for 7 weeks. From there we spent three months in South East Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia and Bali) before returning home to start our careers.

Exploring the coast of Noosa.

That was 6 years ago – now its time to go again!

The next big adventure

We have had a great five years living in Manchester, both with great jobs and amazing friends. However, we always knew we needed to go travelling and this time, see if we could travel for good. It was just a matter of when.

We set different dates and different financial targets and changed them time and time again. We soon realised, like many other people who want to travel, you can easily find an excuse to wait a bit longer.

Finally, we put our foot down and booked flights leaving us no choice. Now that time is almost upon on!

With the huge rise in social media and travel blogs, we decided that it would be great to be part of that community which is why we have set up The Globetrotter Guys. Not only will we be able to learn from others, but we can share our experiences and knowledge along the way.

So what is coming up?

As a gay couple, we are interested in the different attitudes across the world when it comes to LGBT rights and treatment. There are so many places where LGBT rights are celebrated and so many places where it is the complete opposite. During our travels we want to document and showcase all the celebrations of LGBT life across the world because quite simply, these events drive positive change and that is something we want to be a part of and share.

We will also be showcasing the best adventures in each location, the best accommodation and of course, the best food! We have high standards so you should expect good things being shared!

Our current plan has many exciting locations. We will start in New York before heading onto Central America, South America, Europe, North America, Canada and then New Zealand…….that’s the plan but who knows where we will end up.

We look forward to sharing our adventures with you! Please keep up to date by signing up to our mailing list, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook!

Have an amazing day!

Sion and Ben
