Top LGBTQ+ destinations in Europe: – In my humble opinion, the continent of Europe is the market leader when it comes to its choice of LGBTQ+ friendly destinations. So much so, that I will definitely be spoilt for choice – I certainly struggled putting this list together!
5. Barcelona, Spain
If we had to choose our favourite European country – whilst it would be a hard choice, Spain is always going to be the answer! Sun, sea, sand and sangria – Spain has it all. And one of the places offering all of those in spades is the beautiful city of Barcelona.
Barcelona is widely known as one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly cities in Europe, attracting tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ travellers each year to check out the city’s vibrant gay nightlife scene, gay shopping district, or maybe even the gay beach!
Barcelona is also world famous for its incredible architecture – it is after all the birthplace of famed Gothic architect Antoni Gaudi. Travellers from around the world flock to the city to see his buildings, attractions and monuments such as the iconic Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, or Casa Batllo, all of which (and many more!) can easily be visited using the multi-attraction Klook Pass Barcelona.
4. London, United Kingdom

Ask any LGBTQ+ person travelling to the UK where they plan on visiting, and London is most likely going to be at the top of their list – and as regular visitors to the capital city ourselves we can easily see why!
London has a great gay nightlife scene, predominantly found in the Soho area, made up of old English style pubs, more modern gay bars, and of course clubs to dance the night away. London Pride is also the biggest in the UK, taking place annually in late June/early July and attracting an estimated 1.5 million visitors.
London really is one of those cities where you can easily fill every single minute of the day, with historical landmarks, attractions, and sights on every corner.
Considering how often we travel to London for work purposes, it was nice to spend a weekend in our capital city as UK tourists for once – and thanks to Klook it was easy to make the most of our time. We used their London pass for easy and discounted access to a number of different attractions and activities whilst there, such as a ride on the iconic London Eye, a day sightseeing on a hop-in-hop-off bus, and we even did the thrilling O2 Climb!
We highly recommend this for anyone visiting London – if you plan on doing a lot whilst here you can save a lot! Take a look at the different options here.
3. Berlin, Germany

No list of LGBTQ+ friendly destinations in Europe is complete without including the infamous German capital city of Berlin.
Berlin is one of our all-time favourite city destinations, and is somewhere that keeps us coming back time and time again. The main reason – simply because of how gay friendly and how welcoming the entire city is to our community. In Berlin, it feels like being a member of the LGBTQ+ community is just a natural part of society.
There is an attitude of open-mindedness across Berlin – people don’t care, or even seem to notice if you are different in any way, and we really love their ‘you just do you’ attitude – it’s refreshing to be in a place where you can completely let your guard down!
Berlin also has one of the biggest Prides in Europe, held in July each year.
And of course, being a city with so much history – and recent history too at that – there is plenty to see, do, visit and learn during your time here, such as visiting the Wall, the various museums, or even just visiting various historical locations around the city where important events and decisions took place on a walking tour. Check out Klooks range of Berlin activities here.
2. Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Whilst a relatively small city in terms of size – Amsterdam has all the main characteristics and offerings of a city three times the size – great restaurants, beautiful hotels, plenty to see and do, fun nightlife, and a very warm and welcoming attitude to the LGBTQ+ travellers that visit each year!
In fact, the Netherlands was the very first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage, back in 2001 – just if you needed extra convincing of how LGBTQ+ friendly this country is.
There is a very vibrant scene, for all members of the LGBTQ+ found in the Reguliersdwarsstraat area of the city, made up of clubs, bars and restaurants. Amsterdam Pride also has one of the most iconic Pride events in Europe – well known for its unique Canal Parade!
And the city itself is a very beautiful city, with a rich history. The canals, exploring the city on bicycle, the gabled houses and places of interest such as the Anne Frank House are what attract millions of visitors each year. Klook recommends at least 3 days to fully appreciate all that this city has to offer – take a look at their recommendations of how best to enjoy Amsterdam.
1.Reykjavik, Iceland
Visiting Iceland had been high on our agenda for years, and so we could not have been any more excited to visit for Reykjavik Pride last year.
We’re quite confident with the attitudes to LGBTQ+ travellers when it comes to Western Europe, and the Med, but with Iceland being its own little island away in the North Atlantic, for the first time in a long time we didn’t know what to expect – turns out, nothing to be concerned about whatsoever!
Being gay in Reykjavik, and Iceland as a whole actually, isn’t just accepted – it is celebrated! You can expect a very warm welcome to this chilly destination as a gay traveller.
Of course, being a small island with a small capital city, there isn’t a big scene as there is in the larger cities on mainland Europe, but don’t let that put you off. Iceland does indeed celebrate pride, each year in August, and is very community focussed, with about a third of the entire island coming to show their support. There is a gay bar, and there is even a permanent Rainbow Road in the town centre.
But somewhere like Iceland, the gay scene wouldn’t be the main draw anyway. It’s all about what Iceland has to offer – stunning scenery, incredible experiences, and unique attractions.
We’re talking whale watching, the lagoons, volcanoes, hunting for the Northern Lights, ice caves – you won’t have a spare minute! For a full list of activities, take a look at Klooks top recommendations here.
So there you have it – our top 5 LGBTQ+ friendly destinations across Europe, all ready to explore with Klook. Which one of these are you most excited to visit
