Manchester Pride – Everything you need to know!

We have been to Manchester Pride every year for the last 8 years – it is one of the biggest and best the UK has to offer.

Manchester Pride – when and where is it?

For years Manchester Pride has been held in the gay village, but this can no longer continue as Pride has outgrown this area with new property developments reducing the space available.

One of the organisers also explained that new terms and conditions for the spaces used for the main stage mean nothing could be confirmed until 3 months before the event – this being a huge risk has meant that to avoid disappointment, Manchester Pride took on a new form!

The main stage this is held in a venue a short walk from the gay village. This venue has been used in the past for the Warehouse Project and Manchester International Festival so you expect good things!

Previously called the Big Weekend, the main stage part of Manchester Pride will now be called Manchester Pride Live.

There will still be focus around the Gay Village, namely Canal Street and the surrounding streets, where you will find all the bars, clubs and parks to enjoy.

How long is Manchester Pride?

Manchester Pride always falls on the bank holiday weekend in August giving us the best chance of sunshine!

Everything kicks off on the Friday for 4 nights in total. It’s always a good idea to book Tuesday off work!

Can I still access the Gay Village?

The Gay Village is enclosed during Manchester Pride and you can only access it with a wristband (or if you live/work in the village).

What are the best bars to go to during Manchester Pride?

We love G-A-Y, Cruz 101 and many more.

Check out our guide to the best gay bars in Manchester.

Where can I see the Manchester Pride Parade?

The Manchester Pride Parade is free and the route is released on the Manchester Pride website in advance.

Manchester has quite a small city centre so it would be practically impossible to miss it!

This normally runs on the Saturday just after lunch for a few hours and is free to watch from the streets (get a spot early!).

Manchester Pride – how much are tickets?

You will need tickets for Manchester Pride, you can choose from a single day, just the weekend or all 4 days.

You can also choose between access to the Gay Village and the Main stage area, or just the Gay Village.

Where to stay during Manchester Pride?

We have lived in Manchester for a long time but recently stayed at the following hotel:

DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester

gay manchester travel hotels

Hilton have done so much work globally for the LGBTQ+ community, making them a brand we stand behind.

When it comes to Manchester, DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester sits just a 5 minute walk from the main train station (Manchester Piccadilly) and a mere 2-minute walk into the gay village – ideal!

The service, breakfast and everything about the hotel is exactly as you would expect from the Hilton brand and you are sure to receive a warm welcome (and warm cookie!) on arrival.

If you want style, character and to be wowed make sure to check out the 5* Kimpton Clocktower.

As a brand, Kimpton have always been committed allies to the LGBTQ+ community and this was particularly evident when we spoke with the General Manager on site.

The rooms (especially the Heritage Suite) are stunning, grand and have many thoughtful local touches – you won’t be disappointed.

Hotel Indigo

Hotel Indigo is right outside Manchester Victoria train station and within walking distance to the city centre (and the gay village).

The rooms are beautifully and stylishly decorated with plenty of space and all the amenities you could need for a weekend away. We particularly loved the bed which we did not want to leave!
