Gay London Travel Guide: London is one of the UK’s best gay cities in the UK! In my Gay London Travel Guide, I will cover everything you need to know to plan a gay trip to London, including the best gay bars in London, gay clubs and club nights, LGBTQ+ events, gay-friendly hotels and the main gay areas in London like Soho, Vauxhall and Clapham.
London has some of the best gay nightlife in the UK, a longstanding queer history and it’s fair to say, it’s a pretty iconic city.
I’ve visited London many times and like many capital cities around the world, London is a hub for everything gay in the UK and sits high on any gay travellers list as a must visit gay destination in Europe.
Whether you are looking for the best gay bars in London, queer cafes, gay friendly hotels in London or even a museum dedicated to the queer history in the UK, London has it all.
Let’s get into my Gay London Travel Guide, to help you plan your next trip and to make sure you don’t miss out on some of the hottest gay events around…
Is London Gay Friendly?

Yes – London is one of the top gay friendly cities in the UK, with a large LGBTQ+ population, a widespread gay scene and lots of queer friendly spaces, London attracts gay travellers from all over the world!
Of course, like anywhere in the UK (and indeed the world) this does not mean London is free from homophobia, but it is fair to say you can feel safe and secure exploring gay London, whether that’s as a solo gay traveller or as a couple hand in hand.
If you are doing a wider trip to the UK, make sure to check out my guides for these other gay friendly UK cities: Gay Brighton Travel Guide, Gay Leeds Travel Guide and my favorite, Gay Manchester Travel Guide.
Below I share some of the main gay areas in London where you can feel extra safe.
It is after all, the age old tale, that all the gays move from their small towns to the ‘big gay city’ and ‘gay London’ is no exception to this rule.
For other very gay friendly cities in Europe, check out my Gay Berlin Travel Guide, my Gay Cologne Travel Guide and my full list of Gay Spanish destinations.
Gay Areas of London
The main gay areas in London you will want to explore include Soho, Vauxhall and Clapham (unsurprisingly where you will find most gay London nightlife). I’ve shared a little information on each below, but as a tourist I would suggest that you stay in Soho.
Soho
This is the main gay area in London and is where you will find the majority of gay bars in London, gay shops and even a gay sauna. Within the Soho area, you will find that many of the local gay businesses are centred specifically around Old Compton Street so I would suggest using this as a reference point.
This is where I recommend for first time visitors to London, it’s busy every night with tourists and locals alike.
Vauxhall
South of the river is Vauxhall which rivals Soho for being the main gay area in London.
It is home to The Royal Vauxhall Tavern which is a long standing gay bar/pub and an iconic spot to visit. Vauxhall is also notoriously known for Fire, the gay club where all the gays end up until midday Sunday…
This is a place for the party gays for sure.
Clapham
This has become a popular place for the gays to live in London, it’s also known for some popular gay bars like the Two Brewers and ARCH Clapham. In fact, you often hear the term ‘the Clapham gays’ it has become so gay!
When summer comes around, the local park Clapham Common, becomes a very popular gay hangout and a key part of the gay London scene – yes there are boys in speedos there and no they are not there to swim. You are welcome!
Gay Bars in London
There are many gay bars in London, spread all across the city but mainly contained to the gay areas of London I mentioned earlier (Soho and Vauxhall in particular). I’ll share an extensive list soon, but for now, these are the most popular for each area:
Ku Bar – Soho

This has to be one of the most popular gay bars in London! Last time I went here I don’t quite remember leaving…
Ku Bar is over two floors and whether you are starting your night here with a drink, or wanting to get up on the dancefloor until the early hours, this is the place to be.
Look out for various themed nights and drag shows!
Address: 30 Lisle St, London WC2H 7BA, United Kingdom
Circa Soho – Soho
Known as Soho’s DJ Bar, Circa is open till 1am with daily happy hours until 10pm and fun themed nights like Thirsty Thursdays (these thirsty London gays!).
They are also known for their cocktails if that is how you would like to start your night.
Address: 62 Frith St, London W1D 3JN, United Kingdom
Rupert Street Bar – Soho
Dubbing itself as the chicest gay bar in Soho, Rupert Street Bar does indeed look like a more elevated and classy venue. Maybe somewhere worth dressing up for and taking your date out for some cocktails.
Address: 50 Rupert St, London W1D 6DR, United Kingdom
The Royal Vauxhall Tavern – Vauxhall
This gay bar in London deserves icon status. It’s one of London’s longest running gay bars and has been known as an LGBTQ+ cabaret bar since the 1980s.
It is open 7 nights a week, has won multiple awards over the years, raised thousands for LGBTQ+ charities and always has a full schedule of entertainment going on.
If you want to experience some of London’s iconic queer history, swing by The Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
Address: 372 Kennington Ln, London SE11 5HY
Eagle London
I feel like any self respecting gay city needs an Eagle Bar and London is no exception.
You will find Eagle London in Vauxhall and for those that know the concept, Eagle is synonymous with the leather community.
Like most Eagle bars, its a good place to socialise in spaces like it’s beer garden and then as the night goes on it becomes a place to dance. It also hosts club nights like the infamous Horse Meat Disco – honestly this is another iconic place you should check out.
Address: 349 Kennington Ln, London SE11 5QY
ARCH Clapham – Clapham
ARCH Clapham looks stylish AF.
Come here in the daytime to socialise and chill and then get ready for the night-time when the dancefloor becomes packed for its legendary drag shows, live music and DJ sets.
Address: 333-337 Clapham Rd, London SW9 9BT
Two Brewers – Clapham
My final mention is another staple when it comes to gay bars in London.
Two Brewers is super popular and known for its drag shows, cabaret, and friendly crowd. You could easily spend your entire evening here!
Address: 114 Clapham High St, London SW4 7UJ
Gay Nightlife and Gay Clubs in London
There are a few gay clubs in London and no matter how your Saturday night goes, I can almost guarantee Fire is where you will end up!
Fire Club Vauxhall
Just accept this as your fate. If you go out on a Saturday night, you will end up here!
Fire hosts lots of well known gay parties and events such as Madmen Party, Candy Party, Beyond After Hours. Music varies per room so you can find pop, circuit etc.
The venue is broken up into lots of different sections so different events open up into different spaces. The main thing you need to know is that this often stay open until 11am on Sunday so it’s no surprise this is where all the gay end up.
I am sure I’ll see you there…
Heaven
One of the longest running gay clubs in London, Heaven is iconic for so many reasons. From its big name performers, to its p0rn idol shows and everything else in between.
I feel like it is worth mentioning that this is more frequented by the younger student crowd nowadays.
Coven: Headquarters
A new five floor queer club in London that opened in June 2026, welcoming every letter of the LGBTQ+ community and located where G-A-Y Bar Soho used to be. It’s positive to see new places open up in Compton Street, especially after losing a numvber of venues of the past few years,
Gay Parties in London
London has some of the best gay nightlife in the UK. Every time I visit London it seems there is a new party to try!
The trend in recent years has been that gay club nights or parties such as Roast or Feel It (below) hire out a large event venue on certain nights, rather than being held in a dedicated gay club. These have become super popular!
Roast

Maybe, just maybe… this could be one of my favorite gay parties in London. Roast has been hugely successful over the past few years.
Dubbing itself as London’s Beefiest Men only Gay Clubnight, Roast is a place to dance, rave and play.
The reason I think Roast is a great gay club night in London is because of how the event is spread over the venue, Electrowerkz.
They have the courtyard which is a chill place to start, next to this the pop room to warm up and sing your heart out and then beyond this, as the night goes on, you can head to the techno/circuit rooms through until 6am.
Roast is also a place where you can wear what feels good, whether thats very little to run around in or just something casual.
Find out more on their Instagram page.
Feel It
Very high on my list, Feel It is a very cool, queer, gay party that runs every friday. It is super popular, so much so that it has had to move to a bigger venue recently called XOYO London.
In the new venue they will have 2 rooms playing different music from 10:30pm till 5am. In the past, Feel It has seen surprise performances from queer icons like Charlie XCX and Jade…so you never know who might show.
Top tip: go to their Instagram and put yourself on their guestlist if you know you are going and you will get reduced entry if you arrive within the time stated on the guestlist form.
Trough
Dark beats and playful areas. Trough is another popular gay techno club night in London.
You can wear sportswear, or whatever you like…so hopefully that explains the vibe.
Bash!
Another new one I want to try. Bash is a high energy queer-led club night inspired by the late 70’s NYC nightlife. It’s also hosted at Electrowerkz which is a venue I highly rate!
I’m looking through their pictures on Instagram right now, it looks like such a vibe!
SBN/NBN
Go and see what SBN and NBN stand for on their page.
Gay Hotels in London
I have an extensive list of the best gay hotels in London here, below is a handpicked selection of some of my favorite gay friendly hotels in London, these are hotels I have personally visited and enjoyed:
Bankside Hotel, Autograph Collection

Anytime I see the words ‘Autograph Collection’ I know I am in for a treat. Adding the fact that the Bankside Hotel has also gained its Travel Proud accreditation on booking.com makes this hotel a very good choice for gay travellers coming to London.
The hotel is impeccably decorated and during my visit had an art showcase in their Art Yard studio, where the current artist in residence, Emily Porter, was showcasing their creative work.
Tied into this is their on-site restaurant, Art Yard Bar, which I would visit the hotel for alone. Each course I tried here was full of flavour and the service top class. This is where they also serve breakfast which has a huge selection and admittedly, I got extra excited to find a freshly squeezed orange juice machine as part of their offerings.
The room was super spacious, with all the mod cons and of course most importantly, the bed was so comfy you could (and I did) spend all day in it.
Location wise, you are right in the centre of London so have easy access to all the main attractions and if you are here for a gay weekend in London, you are just a ten-minute walk from one of the most popular queer parties on a Friday, Feel-It party.

Hilton London Bankside

If you forced me to choose my favorite hotel in London, this has to be a close contender.
The Hilton London Bankside has a great deal of character and the level of service from the moment you walk in the door is second to none.
The rooms are stylishly decorated, and I could happily live in one of their suites.
There are many unique and well thought out touches throughout the hotel, they use ingredients from their rooftop garden in the on site restaurant, you will find an indoor heated pool (and fitness centre), have access to bikes to hire to explore the local area and they even have the worlds first vegan suite!
Make sure to check this out for your next stay in London.
The Resident Soho

Sleek, stylish and perfectly located in Soho, this 4* hotel ranks in the top 50 hotels in London on TripAdvisor and is just two minutes away from Oxford Street.
They offer 7 different room types from small doubles offering a cosy, great value for money room to their Carlisle Suite where you will experience a luxurious stay with superb views of Soho Square.
Every room features a signature mini-kitchen, as well as stylish touches, including bespoke artwork, special edition Paul Smith Anglepoise lamps, Nespresso machines and Brita filter taps, you can relax in your room with home comforts to enjoy.
The Resident is part of a chain of hotels. They also have a property in Kensington, Covent Garden and Victoria.
Gay Events in London
As One Festival

As One Festival returned in 2024 and has made a strong comeback!
As One is an LGBTQ+ daytime festival held during summer with multiple stages catering to different parts of the community. They have attracted some big name DJ’s and top entertainment like La Voix and Danny Beard.
You will, unsurprisingly, find me dancing with the circuit gays under the big tent or at the WE Party stage!
If you are in London for As One, make sure to get yourself tickets asap!
Body Movements Festival
Body Movements is a queer electronic music festival in London, where queer and trans art is discovered and applauded, queer exploration is encouraged, and queer expression flourishes
This looks like such a good vibe, I have not been yet but looking at their content, you can tell that this is a safe space to express yourself and let loose!
Mighty Hoopla
Dubbing itself ‘The Worlds Best Pop Festival’, Mighty Hoopla has surged in popularity and the acts they have keep getting bigger and bigger. I was gutted to have missed Jade and Kesha last year.
This is another daytime festival that runs across the entire weekend in Brockwell Park with upcoming acts including the likes of Lily Allen and Scissor Sisters.
London Pride
One of the biggest prides in the UK, London Pride is usually in July with a huge parade around the city and then parties across the weekend.
During the day, many people will naturally hang around Soho for drinks and come the night, all the big clubs and club nights I have mentioned in this blog will be packed!
London Trans Pride
London Trans+ Pride is the world’s largest annual demonstration in support of trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and inters3x lives.
Check out their website for details of the next demonstration.
Gay Saunas in London
Is there a gay sauna in London? It may come as no surprise, with so many gays living in London and so many gay tourists coming to London, that a couple of gay saunas have popped up.
Here are your options for gay saunas in London:
SweatBox Soho
SweatBox considers itself to be a premier male-only gym and sauna in Central London, spanning three floors. The venue is open 24/7 and gets popular on weekends after the parties (mentioned above) finish. They currently do a 24 hour pass for £24 or 48 hour for £29 and you can revisit as long as you have a 2 hour gap and only do 8 hours per visit.
Pleasuredrome
Another 24/7 gay sauna in London! These London gays are thirsty!
With a steam room, sauna, spa pool, a fully stocked bar and massages available on site, you can spend up to 18 hours in one session (best of luck!).
The Locker Room
I had not heard of this one, so I can only assume that the first two are the most popular as I have been told about them by many friends. This one is open 11am-11pm and a slightly cheaper price than the others.
Queer Cafes in London
Whilst it is all too easy to get lost in the gay nightlife scene in London, I love to find the slightly calmer queer spaces and London has a fair few to offer.
Corner New Cross
This queer cafe in London looks super cute with some delectable pastries and sweet treats on offer.
Corner New Cross is a cafe by day and then when it gets to Thursday, Friday and Saturday, stays open late to transition seamlessly into a cocktail bar offering happy hours.
Look out for the huge LGBTQ+ mural on the corner.
BOYS! BOYS! BOYS! Gallery Cafe
Somewhere a little unique and with a heavy focus on queer artwork, BOYS!.. is a new cultural hub to promote queer art and culture.
Serving wine, beers and coffee, this place is open Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 2-7pm, Wednesday & Sunday: 2-6pm and Saturday 2-8pm.
The Common Press
Full description below in the queer bookstore section, as this sits in both the cafe and bookstore category.
Queer Bookstores in London
The Common Press
Such a great queer space! The Common Press is one of London’s most popular queer intersectional bookshop, cafe and event space.

Gays The Word
The UKs oldest LGBTQ+ bookstore in London!
Gays The Word opened in 1979 and like many queer spaces, it is more than just a bookshop and has become a hub for the LGBTQ+ community in London. Find our more on Gays The Word.
Gay Shops in London
If you will be heading to one of the gay club nights in London, you might want to pick up a new outfit to wear. A little one to cover your modesty at least!
Gay Clothing and accessory Shops
You know I am using the term ‘clothing’ lightly…
There are a few gay shops in London that sell the usual gay fashion, gay partywear, gay clubwear and gaccessories.
Make sure to check out Clonezone Soho, Prowler London and FETCH.
Queer Cinema in London
The Arzner
For the love of queer cinema!
The Arzner is a queer cinema with a bar and cafe, you can also get membership here which includes up to 24 complimentary screenings per year. Find out whats on at this queer cinema in London.
Queer Museums in London
Queer Britain – The National LGBTQ+ Museum
Queer Britain is an LGBTQ+ museum in the heart of London. Entrance is free but donations are encouraged to help run the place.
As you enter there is a gift shop to the left which has some really nice and thoughtful gifts, none of that tourist tat you get in other gift shops!
To the right you have a number of rooms displaying different artists and themes, of course centred around the LGBTQ+ history of the UK.
Queer Spaces in London
Dalston Superstore – I had to include this section exclusively for Dalston Superstore because it sounds like it fits into too many sections in this blog!
A thriving queer club, caberat spot, gallery, community space, cafe, drag brunches and more, it sounds like this place is worth checking out! See more on their website.

Things to do in London for Gay Travellers

London is iconic for so many reasons, if you do get a moment to step away from the gay bars in London and the gay saunas, then make sure to hit the following attractions:
The London Eye – this is well worth doing, the ‘flight’ as they call it takes about 30 minutes and you get excellent views of London during. Each pod has a group of tourists in but they are careful not to overfill, I felt like I had plenty of space to enjoy the views – book here.
Buckingham Palace – of course you have to tick the palace off your list! You can simply go and see it from the outside and take a photo, if you are lucky you might see the palace guards, or you can get tickets and visit inside.
Explore Southbank – this is just a really nice part of London with lots of places to eat, drink, galleries, museums or just somewhere to take a nice stroll. This is also where you can see many iconic landmarks like Big Ben and Westminster Hall.
Queer Britain – the national LGBTQ+ museum I mentioned earlier on. A really cool space and one I would encourage you to visit and support.
Cruise down the River Thames – another good way to see the city and a number of it’s iconic landmarks.
