In terms of where to stay, the main gay area of Gran Canaria is Maspalomas and within Maspalomas you have the Yumbo Centre, the heart of the gay scene in Gran Canaria. This area will be the focus for this guide.
In Gran Canaria, all hotels are going to be welcoming, but for this guide I have focused on the ones that are definitely aimed at gay travellers (follow by a few solid gay friendly examples).
I have stayed at both ‘non-gay’ and dedicated gay hotels in Gran Canaria and can definitely appreciate the difference.
The atmosphere and environment when you stay at a gay hotel like Axel Beach Maspalomas feels so much more relaxing because you aren’t having to give a second thought about your LGBTQ+ identity.

- Best gay hotel in Gran Canaria for a lively crowd? AxelBeach Maspalomas is the most popular choice, with a social pool scene and within walking distance of the Yumbo.

Gay Hotels in Gran Canaria (Maspalomas Area)
AxelBeach Maspalomas
AxelBeach Maspalomas is one of the most popular gay hotels in Gran Canaria.
Out of everywhere I have stayed over the years, this would be my first choice for a gay hotel in Maspalomas.
Axel Beach Maspalomas is an apartment style hotel with large rooms, self-catering facilities and large balconies overlooking the pool.
The pool area is modern, with a separate section for the jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna.
I loved the breakfast here, made good use of the gym and it was just a short 5-minute walk to the Yumbo where you can find the best gay bars in Gran Canaria. I could have lived here to be honest!
Ritual Hotel Maspalomas
Ritual has a very similar concept to Axel and is one of the newest gay hotels in Maspalomas.
I have been to Ritual for a pool party and it does have a very cool pool area. The rooms have been newly refurbished but don’t offer self-catering facilities.
It is right next to the Yumbo so it is great in terms of location for a night and attracts a younger/party crowd so it may be noisy!
Seven Hotel & Wellness – Gay Men Only
This is my favorite gay hotel in Gran Canaria.
Seven Hotel & Wellness is a boutique style hotel, with a calmer vibe and more chilled atmosphere (as the name wellness suggests).
The hotel is beautifully designed with a stylish pool area, outdoor gym and spa facilities. If you need a moment away from the chaos of the Yumbo, this is a great choice (it is a ten minute ride from the Yumbo).
Great for couples or solo travellers looking to chill.
One caveat is that during pride this becomes a venue for one of the parties, but that will be made clear when you book – of course during the party the vibe is different.
Atlantic Sun Beach – Gay Men Only
The Atlantic Sun Beach is a small gay resort in Playa del Ingles in a residential area giving it a more calm, local vibe. It is still within walking distance to the Yumbo but just far enough away to feel detached from the chaos!
MAR BIANCO – Gay Men Only
This is a very stylish adults only gay hotel, I love the aesthetic.
Each unit in this boutique hotel is a stand alone unit with full self catering facilities and outside you have a saltwater pool and hot tub.
A cute place to stay for couples wanting a nice place to relax.
Birdcage Gay Men Resort and Lifestyle Hotel
Another boutique gay hotel within walking distance to the Yumbo. Birdcage has a tropical/garden theme style to it.
Again, not a party hotel, more of a chilled vibe.
Vista Bonita LGTBI Resort
Vista Bonita is aimed at attracting a mixed queer crowd.
They offer duplex bungalows and a beautiful pool area and terrace. The resort is on the golf side of Maspalomas so is a bit more chilled being away from the party scene (but still only a ten minute taxi journey).
Great option for mixed groups of travellers who want a chilled place to stay.
Rainbow Golf Bungalows, Gay Men-only Resort
For a gay resort in Gran Canaria, take a look at Rainbow Golf Bungalows.
The resort is just 21 bungalows on the ‘golf side’ of Maspalomas, but again only a 5-10 minute taxi to the Yumbo.
There is a hot tub on site for guests to use and you even get a bottle of champagne on arrival.
Rainbow is popular with repeat guests and those looking for a longer stay.
Club Torso Gay Resort
Club Torso offers twelve contemporary and modern style bungalows and is clothing optional.
They have a heated pool, jacuzzi, sun loungers, a pool bar serving everything you could want, fast wifi and offer a continental breakfast until 11am.
Paso Chico
This a gay men only complex with 6 bungalows, a pool (clothing optional) and a small garden. It is self-catering and so somewhere between a hotel and a holiday let.
In terms of location, it can’t be beaten! It is seconds away from the Yumbo Centre.
Gay Friendly Hotels Gran Canaria
If you aren’t interested in staying at a gay hotel as such, I have also stayed at and recommend the following hotels/resorts:
Hotel Riu Palace
The Riu Palace is the ‘gate to the gay beach in Maspalomas‘ and one of the more luxurious hotels in Maspalomas.
This is a hotel that you can book on a half board basis with great food, a lovely pool area and very good location.
It ranks very highly on TripAdvisor and is therefore a little bit more expensive, but definitely worth looking at.
Parquemar Apartments
For my last trip, I was with friends and wanted to go self-catering.
The apartments at Parquemar are a good size, clean, modern, well located and have a great pool area. They also offer a lot of privacy if you just want your own space.
This was also one of the best value options during Winter Pride Maspalomas and I was very happy with it.
